Cinnamon Oatmeal

Is Cinnamon Oatmeal Healthy?

Yes — it really is! Starting your day with a bowl of Cinnamon Oatmeal is such a wonderful habit. Oats are heart-healthy, packed with fiber, and provide steady energy that keeps you satisfied for hours. The cinnamon not only adds cozy flavor but also comes with its own wellness benefits.

Of course, what you add to your bowl matters! Stick with wholesome toppings like fresh fruit, a handful of nuts, or a drizzle of pure maple syrup, and you’ll have a nourishing breakfast you can feel great about.

How To Make Cinnamon Oatmeal

You’ll love how simple and easy it is to make this creamy cinnamon-flavored oatmeal!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Oatmeal by itself is not very exciting, but with a few added spices, it becomes over-the-top delicious!

  • Old-fashioned rolled oats– The best choice for a creamy yet hearty texture (avoid quick oats if possible).
  • Non-dairy milk– I love oat milk for extra creaminess, but almond, cashew, or soy work great too.
  • Water– Helps create the perfect consistency.
  • Ground cinnamon– The star spice that makes it smell and taste so cozy.
  • Pure maple syrup– For natural sweetness (you can adjust to taste or use coconut sugar).
  • Vanilla extract– Adds lovely warmth and depth.
  • Pinch of salt– Enhances all the flavors.

Optional add-ins: Fresh apple chunks, mashed banana, raisins, chopped walnuts or pecans, or a drizzle of nut butter.

Instruction

This recipe includes instructions for the stovetop and microwave. Both methods are super easy and will be ready in under 10 minutes from start to finish.

  • Stovetop:Add the oats, cinnamon, and water to a medium pan, bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 5 – 7 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Microwave:Place the oats, cinnamon, and water/milk in a microwave-safe dish. Cook at full power for 3 – 4 minutes, keeping an eye on the bowl. After 3 minutes, if it starts to boil over, open the microwave door to stop it. Once oatmeal has settled, continue cooking, keeping an eye on it. You may need to add 30 seconds to 1 minute more.

Serving Suggestions

Serve cinnamon oatmeal warm as is, or with your favorite toppings! Here are some of my favorite ways to serve it:

  • A splash of warm non-dairy milk or a dollop of creamy yogurt on top
  • Fresh sliced banana, apples, or berries
  • A handful of toasted walnuts, pecans, or almonds for crunch
  • A spoonful of my warm Skillet Cinnamon Apples
  • A swirl of peanut butter or almond butter (perfect for adding protein!)
  • An extra drizzle of pure maple syrup or a sprinkle of coconut sugar
  • A pinch of nutmeg or ground cardamom for even more warm spice
  • Raisins or dried cranberries stirred in while it cooks

My personal favorite is serving it with sliced banana, chopped walnuts, and an extra dash of cinnamon on top!

And when I’m feeling extra fancy, I love topping my bowl with a spoonful of my homemade Cranberry Applesauce, diced fresh apples, toasted pecans, pepitas, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. It adds the most wonderful texture and flavor!
