Peach Cinnamon Oatmeal

Peach Cinnamon Oatmeal is a warm, creamy breakfast made with oats, juicy peaches and sweet cinnamon. It takes only a few minutes to cook, so it works well on busy mornings. The peaches add natural sweetness and a soft, fruity bite, while cinnamon gives the oatmeal a cozy flavor. I like making this recipe when fresh peaches are in season, but canned or frozen peaches also work well. A little maple syrup, milk and vanilla make the oats richer and more flavorful. Serve it warm with extra peach slices, chopped nuts or a spoonful of yogurt for a simple and filling meal.

What is Peach Cinnamon Oatmeal
Peach Cinnamon Oatmeal combines old-fashioned oats with peaches, cinnamon, milk and a few simple ingredients. The oats cook until creamy, while the peaches soften and release their sweet juice into the mixture.
This peach oatmeal is easy to customize. You can use dairy or plant-based milk, adjust the sweetness and add toppings such as walnuts, almonds, chia seeds or Greek yogurt. It makes a comforting breakfast that feels special without requiring much work.
Ingredients
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 ½ cups milk
- ½ cup water
- 1 medium ripe peach, diced
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 small pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts, optional
- Extra peach slices, for topping
- Greek yogurt, optional, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the peaches: Wash the peach, remove the pit, and cut it into small pieces. Keep a few slices aside for topping.
- Heat the liquid: Add milk, water and salt to a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Add the oats: Stir in the rolled oats and cinnamon. Reduce the heat to low.
- Cook the oatmeal: Simmer for 5-7 minutes. Stir often until the oats become soft and creamy.
- Add the peaches: Stir in the diced peaches during the last 2-3 minutes of cooking. Let them soften without turning completely mushy.
- Add flavor: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in maple syrup and vanilla extract.
- Serve: Spoon the oatmeal into bowls. Top with fresh peach slices, chopped walnuts and Greek yogurt if desired.
Essential Note: Use ripe but firm peaches for the best texture. Very soft peaches can break down quickly and make the oatmeal watery. If you use frozen peaches, thaw and drain them first. Canned peaches can also work, but drain them well because their syrup can make the oatmeal too sweet. Keep the heat low after adding the oats and stir often to prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom of the pan. The oatmeal will continue to thicken as it cools, so add a splash of warm milk before serving if it becomes too thick.
Recipe Notes
For sweeter oatmeal, add extra maple syrup after cooking. You can also replace peaches with nectarines, add pecans instead of walnuts, or use almond milk for a dairy-free breakfast.
Cooking Tips and Tricks
- Use old-fashioned rolled oats for a creamy texture with some bite. Quick oats cook faster but can become soft and thick.
- Cut peaches into small, even pieces so they cook at the same rate. Add some near the end to keep a fresh peach flavor and pleasant texture.
- Keep the oatmeal at a gentle simmer. High heat can cause the milk to scorch and make the oats stick.
- For thicker oatmeal, cook it for another minute or two. For thinner oatmeal, stir in warm milk before serving.
- A pinch of salt helps balance the sweetness. Cinnamon, vanilla and maple syrup work together to give the oatmeal a warm, balanced flavor.
