Air Fryer Salmon is a fast way to cook tender, juicy fish with a lightly crisp outside. It needs only a few simple ingredients and about 10 minutes of cooking time. The air fryer gives the salmon a nice roasted finish without using much oil. This recipe works well for busy weeknights, quick lunches, or a healthy family dinner. You can season the fish with garlic, paprika, lemon, and herbs for fresh flavor. Serve it with rice, roasted vegetables, salad, or potatoes. Once you try this method, salmon can become an easy part of your weekly meal plan.

Air Fryer Salmon

What Is Air Fryer Salmon?

Air Fryer Salmon is salmon fillets cooked in a hot air fryer until the center turns tender and flaky. The hot circulating air cooks the fish quickly and gives the surface a lightly browned finish.

You can use fresh or thawed salmon fillets. Skin-on salmon works well because the skin can help hold the fillet together during cooking. A simple mix of olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper adds plenty of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 salmon fillets, about 6 ounces each
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • Fresh parsley, for serving

Instructions

1. Prepare the salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Remove any small bones you can feel with clean tweezers.

2. Season the fish: Brush each fillet with olive oil. Mix garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and dried parsley, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the salmon.

3. Preheat the air fryer: Heat the air fryer to 400 F for about 3 minutes if your model needs preheating.

4. Add the salmon: Place the fillets in the air fryer basket in one layer. Leave some space between each piece so hot air can move around them.

5. Cook: Air fry at 400 F for about 7-10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets.

6. Check the center: The salmon should flake easily with a fork. For food safety, check the thickest part with an instant-read thermometer.

7. Serve: Remove the salmon carefully. Add fresh lemon juice and parsley before serving.

Essential Note

  • Salmon thickness affects cooking time more than weight. Thin fillets may cook in 7 minutes, while thick pieces can need 10-12 minutes. Start checking early so the fish does not dry out.
  • The USDA recommends cooking fish to an internal temperature of 145 F. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the fillet for the most accurate reading.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Air needs room to circulate around the salmon. If you cook several large pieces, work in batches.
  • Fresh salmon and fully thawed frozen salmon both work well. If using frozen fillets, remove excess ice and moisture before seasoning. Frozen salmon may need a few extra minutes of cooking.
  • The cooking time can also vary between air fryer models. Check the fish a few minutes before the suggested cooking time ends. The center should look opaque and separate into moist flakes.

Recipe Notes

Use salmon fillets of similar thickness for even cooking, and serve immediately with lemon, fresh herbs, rice, vegetables, or your favorite simple side dish.

Cooking Tips and Tricks

  • Pat the salmon dry before adding oil and seasoning. This helps the seasoning stick and gives the surface better browning.
  • Use fillets with a similar thickness so they finish at nearly the same time. Place them in a single layer and avoid stacking or crowding the basket.
  • For softer salmon, start checking around 7 minutes. For thicker fillets, allow more time. An instant-read thermometer gives you a more reliable result than cooking time alone.
  • Do not flip the salmon unless your air fryer instructions call for it. The hot air cooks the top evenly without needing to turn the fish.
  • Add lemon juice after cooking. This keeps the fresh citrus flavor bright. For extra flavor, try a small amount of Dijon mustard, honey, chili powder, or fresh dill.
